Meridian has a very strong focus on looking after our people. Our Health, Safety and Wellness policy is based around choice and control. We strive to offer a safe environment for all our staff so they can exercise control over their own working lives.

Whether our people work in our corporate or retail office environments or on our generation construction sites we take responsibility for the health, safety and wellness of everyone who works with us.

We introduced some significant Health, Safety and Wellness initiatives during the year. One was the appointment of our occupational physician, Dr Tim Rumball. Tim is one of Australasia's top occupational physicians, and assists us for 1-2 days each week at different Meridian sites. One of his first duties was to administer annual flu vaccinations, which are provided free for all Meridian staff. Another major initiative was the development of our Alcohol and Drug Policy and Guidelines.

During the year we maintained our tertiary status (the highest rating) in the ACC's Workplace Management Safety Programme.
